The Florida-based alarm company, ADT, started offering more than security monitoring services. It's new service, ADT Pulse, allows customers to remotely adjust thermostats, lights and appliances and to video monitor pets and kids.
As Florida Trend magazine explains, "Helping people care for senior relatives is expected to play a major role in growing the smart-home industry." To do so, ADT "has had to invest in both the technology and getting installers, salespeople and call center workers up to speed," and hope that this smart home technology will work and "appeal to energy-conscious residential consumers looking for more than an alarm service".
