Windstream Profit Drops

Imagine that: an ILEC loses 11% of profit at the same time that T&VZ are having record quarters. Oh, yeah, T&VZ merged and such. Windstream is the wireline business spinoff of Alltel, the cellular company that is up for sale. Forbes.com reports on 1Q07 financials for Windstream:

"its first-quarter earnings fell 11 percent as higher interest expense overcame a rise in revenue. Net income dropped to $99.9 million .... from $112.8 million in the year-ago period ... finished the quarter with 715,000 broadband customers, up 42% ... its digital TV customers soared to 122,000 ... [the killer] The company paid $114.7 million in interest expenses, up from $3.9 million last year."
