Why Muni Internet Projects?

NC & SC are in a battle to keep jobs - high tech jobs. [Source: WRAL] Michelin is thinking of moving an R&D center to Canada. So what does that have to do with Muni projects? Well, cities compete for evey job. Job growth is not significant in the US unless you want to discuss home-based businesses and service jobs (like working at Wal-Mart or Starbucks). So cities give tax incentives to businesses to bring jobs. But businesses are looking for skilled labor -- or what we call the Creative Class. That's another reason that cities need a vibrant art community - music, art, plays, comedy, etc. The competition is extreme and global - and it looks like the US is losing.
