The Mayor of Your Business

In a post today, Seth Godin points out that many businesses would do well to have a Mayor - someone whose sole job is to make sure the company works and that it is appealing and functional. Too many businesses have a disconnect between getting the sales order and billing the customer. ISPs and WISPs focus on the technology, the network, which is fine and dandy because you need the network to be fine-tuned, but without sales you don't have revenue. And if you have sales, you have to have a system or process in place to get the contract and turn it into a billing account. Most companies do not have a process. And that is okay with about 250 customers, but after that there are too many cracks for the customer to fall through.
