Alabama 10th in Hotspots

"All told, there currently are 289 hotspots (both free and fee-based) in the Birmingham area, according to a list compiled by the Internet Professionals Society of Alabama and TechBirmingham. " According to AnchorFree, a California-based Internet company, Alabama ranks 10th in the nation in the number of free WiFi access locations (known as hotspots), and more than half those sites are in Birmingham and the surrounding suburbs. "As a whole, Birmingham is one of the more connected cities in the country," says Greg Jones, a consultant with Crabtree Computer. "It's a very technologically oriented city. There are a lot of wireless signals that people are unaware of."
