8x8, Inc. owns Packet8 voice & video service. Started in 1987, 8x8 is more of a patent house with an R&D lab. Packet8 Resi services was launched in 2002. 8x8 reports "As of June 30, 2006, the Company had approximately 151,000 activated Packet8 subscriber lines in service as compared to approximately 133,000 on March 31, 2006." In addition, "Total revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 2007 increased 19% to $12.3 million... The net loss for the quarter was $5.7 million." Roughly half the revenue in losses. Only 151,000 lines since 2002, while Comcast is adding over 200k per quarter! And not at a loss either.
