FCC Seeks Input On Radio Ownership Limits

"The FCC has released the full text of the Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking it adopted in June that opens up many of its media ownership limits, including its radio ownership rules, for reconsideration and possible revision. In the notice, the FCC notes that the Third Circuit Court of Appeal remanded the agency's numerical radio station ownership limits on the grounds that the FCC failed to sufficiently justify the rules. In particular, the court said the agency failed to demonstrate how the rules - which set varying station ownership limits based on market size - promote the emergence of five equal-sized competitors in markets, a benchmark the FCC has long aimed for.
