Michigan Attorney General Goes After Vonage

<>Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox is the latest to initiate a consumer-protection action against a VoIP provider, sending a “notice of intended action” to Vonage Holdings Corp. for “misleading consumers about the company's emergency 911 service.” Cox says Vonage “failed to make it clear that customers do not have access to traditional E911 service.” The action gives Vonage 10 days to respond or the attorney general may seek “injunctive relief and civil penalties." Cox, in an unusual move, sent out a nationally distributed press release about the action, inviting consumers to submit complaints about Vonage to his office.
