Kathleen Q. Abernathy Announces her departure from the FCC

Abernathy is leaving on Dec. 9. Tate is up for Powell's spot. Copps is up for re-instatement for another term. Adelstein has some time left. I guess Harry Potter is staying. So still one empty seat. Leaving a Balanced 2-2 Dem-Rep commission. This was my favorite line from her letter: "Our largely market- driven approach to advanced services has helped create a vibrant market ." Also, "All of our successes, and even our failures, demonstrate one fundamental truth: that regulation is most effective when it deals with markets as they are -- not as they might once have been, and not as we would ideally like them to be. " It's that kind of thinking that required the TA96 and the break-up of AT&T to begin with.
