Court Insists on Nov 28 Deadline

The FCC announced on November 7 that VoIP service providers operating in the U.S. would not have to discontinue voice services to existing customers in areas where the provider is not offering e911 as defined by the governing body. Further, the new position included a weak statement that it "expects" that providers will discontinue marketing VoIP service and accepting new customers until e911 provisions are fully implemented. However, a federal appeals court has refused the FCC's delay and has insisted that existing customers in areas with inadequate e911 will be cut off before the end of this month. The FCC has established a new web site on e911 services for VoIP providers at http://voip911.gov (from IP Pulse).
