FCC Strikes Killing Blow to Telecom Act

from DSL Reports: "The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the FCC could announce the final clubbing of the 1996 Telecom Act either today or tomorrow, which - after a decade of bell lobbying - would eliminate the majority of baby bell DSL regulation (Indie ISPs and consumer advocates aren't pleased). "The matter wasn't on the FCC's formal agenda for tomorrow's meeting but is expected to be a last-minute addition," reports the WSJ." .... "After this morning's meeting and despite heavy criticism from consumer advocates - the FCC has just ruled to classify DSL as an "information service", removing Title II responsibility, freeing the 'Baby' Bells from most of the regulatory oversight currently framing the sector.
