Sprint Buying Vonage???? from Andy Abramson
from Andy Abramson: Sprint Buying Vonage????
I'm glad Russell waited a few days after April Fool's Day to post this as it would be sweet chin music for SBC/AT&T folks. If any telecom company has had more great ideas that never went anywhere it's SPRINT. Year after year they come up with absolutely stunning ideas around technology and even as business cases turned into ideas that never get past launch. Think LMDS/MMDS, Sprint ION and even their deals with cable companies that birthed SPRINT Wireless but never achieved what it could have (i.e. they were huge investors in PacketVideo and where did that go?) Why? Two reasons. Execution and customer support. No company executes the play worse and provides almost antagonistic customer support. Trying to do things like changing a billing address or updating a credit card number requires almost an act of God, yet Sprint will cut the customer off regardless of what the customer has said and done. Buying Vonage would be great for the Vonage investors, but if Sprint does buy them, we can all say we remember when Vonage was and what they were....
