A lot of studies cross my eyeballs. I get to see trends. I can also say I discount some studies based on who wrote it, who paid for it, or who was contacted.
I can say that there are 3 trends going on right now: cloud, BYOD, compliance.
BYOD - bring your own device - is kicking the heck out of the IT department of most companies. Security issues with BYOD is just a small part of it. All those devices are also chewing up WLAN bandwidth. And companies that have heavy compliance issues are especially fearful of BYOD.
Security in general is up. I just sold a PAAS solution and the project architect was screaming because it didn't come with a firewall. That's the first time anyone asked me for a firewall in a long time.
Compliance - HIPAA, PCI, GLBA, SOX - so many regulations that need to be examined from a policy, security, monitoring and reporting perspective.
