Replay - out of Hardware

Red Herring is reporting that RePlay is getting out of the hardware DVR business. Instead the DVR software from Replay will become bundled with Hauppauge WinTV-PVR cards. Replay got its butt kicked by TiVo (who has since struggled). Replay's history is funny: "ReplayTV, founded in 1997, became one of the innovators in the DVR market along with TiVo. ... The company was purchased by SONICblue in 2001, which filed for bankruptcy in 2003. The Japanese conglomerate D&M Holdings bought ReplayTV in April 2003. ... After a restructuring in which the company will divest itself of all remaining 5500 Series DVR products, ReplayTV will become a software and services company."
